Officially designated as the 312P, it is more commonly known as the Ferrari 312PB to avoid confusion with the previous model. It was introduced to competition in 1971 in the Group 6 sports-prototype category.
Enzo Ferrari sacrificed the 1971 season, and the 1972 season ended with a resounding victory in the World Sportscar Championship. The start of the 1973 season was more chaotic, due in particular to the change in tires.
The Ferrari No.15 of Jacky Ickx and Brian Redman was the last car to abandon the race after 332 laps, having spent 6 consecutive hours in the lead.
